  • 1/2 cup cold butter (or vegan butter)
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup milk (any type)
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar (for sprinkling on top)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (or vegan butter)
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • ½ tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, spices, salt, and sugar.
  3. Cut the cold butter into the dry mixture until it resembles small peas.
  4. Stir in molasses and milk until just combined.
  5. Shape the dough into a circle about 3/4 inch thick on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  6. Brush the top with milk and sprinkle with sugar.
  7. Cut into wedges and bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
